Final Project
“Crafting Serenity” is a pottery factory and workshop
situated in Digbeth, Birmingham which works in
tandem with the upcoming regeneration scheme,
reviving Digbeth’s rich history in the arts and crafts industry.
The building plays on the traditional typology of a
factory and museum by flipping its programme inside
out, manufacturing large batches of ceramics on the
the exterior of the building whilst displaying the pottery on a structural timber shelving unit on the interior.
The building also features a dynamic roof
which opens and closes according to the weather and
wishes of its employees. The oasis of independent
workshops for small businesses and creatives
also aims to create a more intimate atmosphere,
appreciating the meditative nature of making pottery, set above a body of water.

Preliminary Conceptual Sketch
This drawing is my architectural interpretation of my grandmother’s daily struggles with dementia. As a young girl growing up with her, I witnessed how her dementia progressed as she aged. The drawing illustrates her journey with dementia and encapsulates a glimpse of her confusing memories.
This drawing was a finalist in the Architizer One Drawing Challenge 2020.
Worked for one year as part of the placement programme within the luxury residential sector in Bath, UK.
