Throughout my studies at Loughborough University I have developed a profound interest in the impact of the built environment on user experience and perception of space, finding inspiration by addressing issues that spark conversation and inspire societal change.
Final Project
Reclaiming the Domestic
My graduation project, titled ‘Reclaiming the Domestic’, is a centre for making, validating the traditional crafts of women using
non-conventional techniques. A platform where female oppression is exposed and female expression is spoken, to amplify the voices of women, seeking to challenge societal norms, spark conversations, and inspire lasting change.
This initiative merges the rich history of women’s labour with the urgent requisite for gender equality, through the construction of a transformative experience to uplift and honour women’s craftsmanship, resilience, and creative spirit.
The Theatre, The Factory & The Sanctuary
The theatre, an exhibition of the past, upholding memory of the female ammunition workers that once sustained Woolwich, and also an ever-changing exhibition of the current oppression faced by women locally, nationally and globally.
The factory, where the historically embedded idea of women’s craftsmanship is renewed in a contemporary setting, using waste items and materials and transforming it into experimental commodities and art forms – the exciting pursuits of many artists striving towards expression in innovative ways will be facilitated through a series of experimenting labs and workshops.
The sanctuary, the moment of serenity and safety – offering a space for therapy and rest during the day, and a shelter of protection and support at night or during crisis.
Journey to the Show
Final Year Introduction Project
A community hub that provides a rich programme driven by the celebration and exchange of knowledge, culture and heritage.
Second Year Library Project
A space that strives to weave together the strands of a disjointed community, through the ignition of interaction and conversation.
First Year Home Project
A home for an instrument maker. Using the concept of duality to transition between the private and public sectors of the users life.
Awards
- Awarded best team project in Year 2, sponsored by Murphy Philipps.
- Nominated for the best Home project in Year 1.
- Awarded best Element project in Year 1.
- End-of-year award for most outstanding student performance in Year 1.
Work Experience
During my placement year I worked as a Part I Architectural Assistant for Murphy Philipps in London, a practice specialising in healthcare design, where I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from the initial stages of concept development to construction and handover.
Additionally, I have completed short term internships with KPW Architects, A+G Architects and Litebox Architecture and completed an Architecture Masterclass programme at Cambridge University.
