Final Project
My graduation project, which addresses the social political climate that Bristol finds itself in. The project addresses the blind ambition of the government planning to create an open, and imaginative city which is full of originators, while clearly failing and breaking down the people it seeks to bring up.
The concept of disruption which is narrative driven, combines the liberty spikes hairstyle which is present within the underground scene, especially in punk culture, having strong symbolism of freedom, and the concept of decay which originated from the site in which the project is located in.
The complex aims to bring together the underground scene of Bristol and the locals together. Offering a tame surface level introduction through its overground levels of expression, which later distils to a grungier and more punk atmosphere. The proposal is separated into different districts of expression, being Art, Fashion, Film, and Music.
This model of the wall is 1:5 scale, it is the direct response to the Bristol government not supplying local artists with the canvases necessary to carry out their work. The model is made up of offcuts and plaster, layering with paint and spray paint.
The building forms have been derived from experimenting and model making. The one pictured above is a 1:50 model of the fashion building, which has been the blueprint of the full design.
This project was also based in Bristol, close to the site of the graduation project. The proposal aimed to address the lack and dissatisfaction of leisure facilities in Bristol
The project focused on researching and using carbon concrete, to create a sculpture form and a statement building which would complement the church parallel to the site.
The building was broken down into different districts of leisure. The programme involved an arcade, casino, café/bar, and a social space.
The building was broken down into districts of atmospheres, starting with the ‘game’ space, being adrenaline fuelled and highly stimulating, which then dilutes towards the social space and bar.
From a young age I have been working as a construction worker for my father, giving me years of experience on site and an alternate perspective on the construction process. During my placement year, I joined a construction/joinery company in London as an assistant draughtsman, which developed a range of skills such as communication, administration, and detail design.
