Louise Rezek

I have gained valuable experience in a smaller practice, a renowned architecture firm and at university. Working on various projects across all RIBA stages has allowed me to develop a comprehensive understanding of the architectural process from concept to completion.

Final Project

Terapi Ø

Terapi Ø (Therapy Island) offers a range of passive, active and alternative therapies that align with the the existing design of Refshaleøen Island, Copenhagen, Denmark. The idea is to bring a diverse range of people to the area through a diverse programme of therapies which offers something for everyone. For example, it integrates art therapies into the current art centre, Copenhagen Contemporary as an example of incorporating therapies into he existing programme of the island. This preserves the current character of the site whilst enhancing the usage. A main strategy of the site remediating the contaminated soil on the site through planting workshops reinforcing the benefits of healing oneself through healing the land we live one as both as intertwined for a good quality of life. The idea of Terapi Ø started when I came across the statistic of a high usage of antidepressants in Denmark.

Spectrum Collage

Before designing Terapi Ø, I explored the culture and architecture in Copenhagen. I am particularly interested in the perception of Copenhagen vs the reality and explored this through a series of sketches including spectrum lines and collages, scenario sketches, story telling and sketch analysis.

Concept Image of Design

When exploring ideas for my building design, I created a concept image to bring all of my ideas and themes together.

Retreat

My building consists of a series of buildings, with both solitary and social healing spaces, connected by sensory corridors. The sensory corridors incorporates features of phenomenological design, creating spaces that evoke emotional responses and engage the senses to foster a deep connection between occupants and their surroundings. My design focuses on how architecture can enhance well-being and create healing environments.

The site is by the sea and therefore incorporates alternative water therapies as well as spaces for winter bathing, which is a big part of the Danish culture.
